Wreck Beach Trails - Life’s Good

“How are you doing?”, I ask.

“Life’s good, you?”, replies the nude man – humming and passing by me as I walk amidst the breath-taking views of the Pacific Spirit Park Wreck Beach trails.

Life’s truly good. Now, I hardly recall what stress is. Photos or even video simply cannot do justice here. I’m not just talking about the small portion of Wreck Beach by Vanier that everyone has heard of. I’m talking about the 6 kilometre-long walk along the Pacific ocean that takes you through trails, bushes, rocky beaches…

It’s truly breath-taking. Below is my “vivid” and “poetic” description :P

You See

In front of you: water, lots and lots and lots of water from the gigantic Pacific Ocean, large waves pounding at your feet, beautiful, cloudless sky in the background, green islands in the foreground.

Below you: hundreds of thousands of rocks of all shapes and sizes and colours made smooth and groomed by the waves.

To your left: blinding reflected sunshine, an endless sea of water (compared to English Bay, this is such a different perspective!) that ends when it becomes one with the sky.

To you right (and slightly above): downtown Vancouver, the north-shore in full view, Mt. Seymour, Grouse, peaks… but the best part is: hundreds of seagulls circling above you, gliding through the wind, their white coats contrasted by the colour of the sky.

You Hear

Waves gently washing the shores, the wind blowing against your face, the occasional helicopter passing by, the song of the seagulls.

You Sense

Nature, the ocean, the wind, the grass, the land, the waves…

And You Think To Yourself

What a wonderful world.

  1. I love that place. And I’ve only lived here a week and a half so far.

I’ve just heard sketchy stories about the potential dangers of people and in particular young females going down there alone, which kind of spoils my plans for early-morning meditations by the sea…

Sigh. I guess that’s life in the city.

  2. Always wanted to go there… but none of my friends are willing to make the trek =(

    Sounds amazing though.

  3. Hey we could all hike down there together sometime

  4. We should do that… Blog Squad Beach Party! Or more likely just a few of us informally trekking down there. But something, in any case!

  5. Count me in darlings!
