Wordpress Domain Permalink Permanent Redirect — Important SEO Tip!

September 16th, 2007

If you were to type eastwoodzhao.com into your browser, you would be redirected automatically over to www.eastwoodzhao.com

How is that important for your website & domain name, SEO (Search Engine Optimization)-wise?

Search engines often regard www.eastwoodzhao.com and eastwoodzhao.com as two different websites unless you take specific measures to signal to them that they are the same site.

The best way to handle this situation is to setup what is known as a permanent redirect (or a “301″ redirect) from one of these sites to the other. This way, any links that are pointing to the secondary site benefit the primary site, from an SEO perspective.

If a site does not have permanent redirect, it may be experiencing the negative effects of link fragmentation (some of the inbound links may point to www.eastwoodzhao.com and others to eastwoodzhao.com) By correctly configuring a permanent 301 redirect, the search rankings might improve as all inbound links are correctly counted for the website.

A Simple Solution

You don’t have to go into .htaccess files and tweak redirections there if you’re using a Wordpress blog. There’s a simple Permalink Redirect Wordpress Plugin. All it takes is to upload this easy-to-use plugin, and you’re ready to go!

That is very useful information, but I simply do not understand what is the difference between the two pages. Are you telling me that “www” in front of the address can make a difference?
