I’m having mixed feelings about university: on one hand, I’m feeling all nostalgic about the end of summer, the end of “childhood” as we know it (how cheesy) …etc. On the other hand, I’m really looking forward to new beginnings: the beginning of taking up responsibility, meeting new friends, making new discoveries…etc.
So what have I been up to these couple of days? Apart from jet-lagging, I’ve made quite a few trips to UBC. First, I took care of my UBCcard and U-Pass. Making these documents took a relatively short time. I’m quite impressed with UBC’s efficiency: there’s no Catch-22, nothing gets lost in the bureaucracy
On a separate trip to UBC (after the booklist was released), I checked out some of the books for sale in the Bookstore. Not surprisingly, they’re a rip-off
. I’d suggest getting some used texts from Amazon.ca and checking out Craigslist. There’s quite a few decent deals out there.
So this is pretty much what my pre-UBC scramble looks like. I still need to take care of some scholarship-related stuff and start to prepare a bit for Rez move-in.
So what do I really look forward to? Apart from the all the new discoveries and experiences in the coming year — that’s a given — I particularly look forward to the first couple of weeks of school. Sauder Frosh, Imagine UBC, AMS Firstweek. Ahh…
Childhood doesn’t end here; this is just the beginning

Hi there! I’m in BCOMM this coming September as well (got here via a Google search of your email that was sent out on the Blog Squad email, yes I’m a great lurker like that XD)
I just got my UPass and ID Card today, phew, huge burden off my shoulders.
A quick scan of your latest posts led to the following conclusions
- COMMERCE FTW! Wish I applied for CPSC + COMM though, since I’m already taking so many CPSC electives
- I got back from Beijing a month before you =D Are you from there originally, or just traveling?
- OMG… someone who hates the CBC bias as much as me!
I have a feeling we’ll get along just fine by trashing Peter Mansbridge together XD
Phoebe, thanks for dropping by!
Yup, I was born in Beijing. I was there not long ago just in time for the Olympics fever. Long story short: they had 7 channels on CCTV broadcasting the stuff live!!! haha… crazy, crazy stuff…
Sounds like we have a lot in common; let’s grab a coffee sometime
I think the stage of the student is the best stage in all the stages of our life, because here we do not find any responsibility. It is only the simple and sweet struggle to make our dream of ambition come true.
