Sauder School of Business: Ineffective Communications

So I check my email at 4:15: “you have no new messages”. I check my email again at 4:20: “you have 20 new messages”.

Within a span of 2 minutes, Sauder had bombarded my inbox with 20 emails. As you can see, today is Oct. 24, 2008. Some of these emails were suppose to have been sent out from as long ago as Sept. 12 — almost near the beginning of the school year.

In my opinion, sending out 20 emails all at once, more than half-way through the semester — some of which concern matter dating back to the beginning of the semester — is highly unprofessional (especially considering the fact this is the business school), which, as a result, leads to clearly ineffective communications. On top of all that, the not-so-well-formatted messages — images and text all over the place, misaligned — don’t especially help the situation.

Sounds great! Oh, I missed the deadline.

Widmer, Veronica would like to recall the message, “BCom Career e-News September 26, 2008″.

… What?

Sauder, CUS… if you’re out there and reading this message: better get your act together!

*Update: It appears that there had been a technical issue, which resulted in the “unexpected surprise”. See comments.

    Dear Eastwood

Today’s emails were the result of an IT error on the servers. They are a collection of emails that have been sent out to the student body over the past month from Sauder and the CUS.

We value the privacy and email etiquette polices and would never spam our readers intentionally. Please except our apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Should you feel that these emails are not formatted correctly, we would welcome any feedback on improving our correspondences to better suit student needs.

    Sincerely,

Robert Winson | VP Marketing | Commerce Undergraduate Society

  2. Robert, thanks for your quick response.

    I’ve emailed you back.

Oh, just to let you know, even though it appears that the emails may have already been sent to the student body over the past month or so (as you’ve mentioned above), I, unfortunately, have never received them — until today.

There also appears to be other students who have been receiving regular emails from the CUS and Career Office and did not receive the “surprise present” today.
