Reflections on April

I had completely forgotten how beautiful a part of the world I live in. Completely.

Yesterday afternoon, after being gently reminded of this fact by the brilliant colours and textures of spring, I armed myself with a copy of “Tall Tales about the Mind & Brain” and, after many long months of hibernation, ventured out of my cave.

Ages have passed by since I last wandered onto the beach (shame, considering that I live right next to it).

Sun. Flowers. Woods. Stairs. Fresh air. Wind. Sand. Rocks.

Low tide. Intertidal zone. Algae. Molluscs. Arthropods. People.

Water. Tugboats. Birds.

Life was abundant and thriving. Countless tiny crabs lay hidden under the rocks. Limpets. Barnacles. Deadly slippery yet lovable kelp.

This morning… I woke up at 6 AM and headed directly down to the beach. The serenity was like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

Tomorrow morning… weather permitting, I may take my saxophone down there and play for a bit during low tide.

Puppies… this is quite unrelated to the post, but… anyone ever thought about raising a puppy for the BC Guide Dog Services?

  1. British Columbia really IS one of the most beautiful places on earth and I still catch my breath every other morning when I venture outside my house.

Those puppies are so absolutely beautiful too, and I want to hold one right now. =( Unfortunately, I can’t have a furry pet where I live.
