Reclaming the Night

Good sleep is vital for good physical mental and emotional health – but unfortunately we seem to live in a society that has forgotten this fact. In terms of healthy living, sleep is as important as good diet and exercise. Source:  Time to ‘reclaim the night’ for sleep

Since the beginning of the new year, I can only recall 2 or 3 instances where I stayed up past midnight. Gone are the dreadful days of all-nighers.

This has led me to derive the following relationships:

Δ[Sleep] = Δ[Well-being]

My personal experience leads me to conclude that:

Sleep = Grades + Physical & Emotional Well-being

Sleep = Grades + Immune System + Fitness + Neurons + Loathing + Negative Thinking

Solution?

Sleep

It is, indeed, about time we reclaimed the night for sleep.

  1. Couldn’t agree more. I slept from 9:30 – 5 last night. Best sleep I’ve had in ages. Plus… the halls are amazingly peaceful at that time of the morning!

    Eastwood, where DID you find such a collection of e-texts?

    • 9:30 — 5? I wish I could do that… nothing beats sleeping in and waking up to the start of a productive day.

      As for the texts.. the internet is an amazing place. Nothing beats a 1.0 MB/s resnet connection ;)

  2. I couldn’t agree more. I try to go to bed early, but my jerky roommate..like..MUST watch the colbert report and the daily show at maximum volume for some reason. Hence, I’m usually kept up until 1-ish :p

  3. You should obtain some values, plot them on a graph, and determine the slope. Potential for Nobel Prize? What are your plans for reading break?

    • Your comment ended up getting filtered as spam — thanks for using a fake emali! ;)

      Wait for it… this is getting published in month’s time after I further explore the scientific validity of my null hypothesis. If I win the Novel Prize, we’ll split it.

      Plans? Accounting (exam after the break), saxophone, swimming…etc. Yours?

  4. I agree with everything… question is how? If you have over 16 hours of things to do in a day, how do you get a solid 8 hours of sleep?

    Also how do you keep sleep regular. I find that some mornings I am useless. So it would be better to sleep then. However, some evenings I am unproductive, so I sleep early and wake up early?

    P.S. nice new theme… only free one on the premium theme site eh?

    • My guess is that once you get enough sleep, you can work 2x as efficiently — positive feedback! Once you manage to do so, you’ll feel less useless in the morning. :P

      Yup, this one’s free but totally beats the WP theme directory ones.

  5. LOL. This is a nice way of letting students realize the importance of sleep. At any point, I agree. We need to sleep because this is the only time our body resets its function and regain homeostasis.

    It is fun to read your blog..
