Happenings in a Nutshell

"Sometimes I wish I could walk up to my music for the first time, as if I had never heard it before. Being so inescapably a part of it, I'll never know what the listener gets, what the listener feels, and that's too bad." - John Coltrane

My Thoughts - Result of 2008 Iowa Caucuses

Today is Jan. 4, 2008 (yeah! New year!), a day after the 2008 Iowa Caucuses. As some of you may know, I’m a huge fan of Congressman Ron Paul, a republican running for President of the United States.

Yesterday’s results really didn’t surprise me all that much. First of all, I’ll talk about Ron Paul, then then Democrats, and finally the Republicans.

Ron Paul

Ron Paul’s 5th place finish was very predictable. Even though he had raised $6-mil in a single day (the highest Presidential race fundraiser in history, by the way), there was no way he could convince the highly religious, elderly Republicans in Iowa to support him. Though I must say, the 5th place finish of getting 10% of the votes was highly encouraging. Nationally, he’s polling at about 5-6%, in single digits. Yet yesterday, Ron Paul defeated Giuliani (”Mr. 9/11″) by over 6%. What does this tell us? This tells us that Ron Paul is doing better than previously thought, that the nation-wide polls conducted by the media is biased and inaccurate, and that considering that 40% of the voters in New Hemisphere (Primary to take place there in a few days) are independents, Ron Paul could catch a few more votes.

Democrats

Barack Obama (38%), John Edwards (30%), Hillary Clinton (29%), Bill Richardson (2%), Joe Biden (1%), Chris Dodd 0%, Mike Gravel 0%, and Dennis Kucinich 0%

What an inspiring sight to see Obama claiming victory and giving his speech?

That is by far one of the more powerful speeches I have seen! No wonder Hillary Clinton came in third! The people aren’t stupid. She voted for the Iraq war, pretends to be against it nowadays, yet supports the permanent creating of bases. She claims to, unlike Bush, talk to Iran through diplomacy, yet she voted in favour of framing the Iranian Revolutionary Guards as a so-called “terrorist organization” (for your information, the Revolutionary Guards is the official Iranian military). Hilliary Clinton is such a hypocrite! Now that people recognize her rhetoric, her true self behind the cackling voice, her overwhelmingly bloated war chest… Obama really has a chance at this. Just think about it… standing behind Obama in the speech above are all white people. If Obama can win like that in a white state like Iowa, what can’t he do?

Republicans

2008- Mike Huckabee (34%), Mitt Romney (25%), Fred Thompson (13%), John McCain (13%), Ron Paul (10%), Rudy Giuliani (4%), and Duncan Hunter (1%)

Ahh… good’ol Neo-cons (not including Ron Paul of course)! All I have to say here is that I don’t want to see a police state. I don’t like wars. I’m not religious. I don’t want a society controlled by fear. I want freedom given back to the people.

I don’t really like politics therefore I don’t know what to say other than a crook should never be voted into office whether mistakingly or otherwise.
