Look!

I find it quite funny that at the intersection of Broadway & Granville (one of the busiest and largest in town), there are large blocks of text printed on the cross-walks that say “LOOK”!

Yes, look. “LOOK!” with giant arrows pointing towards the direction in which cars are approaching. Don’t people look before crossing the street? :o

Just to let you know… I am a very, very paranoid street-crosser: I look to the left for cars that are turning right, keep scanning left in my peripheral vision while looking ahead for cars that are turning left from the opposite direction, look to the right once I’m half-way through the intersection — just in case someone decides to run a red light, and keep on scanning right for cars that are turning right.

I do that for practically every street that I cross — even if they’re empty. Yes: paranoid — but alive ;) .

So you can imagine how surprised I was to see the giant “LOOK” on the cross-walk. Perhaps they should even implement LCDs in windshields that say “WATCH FOR PEDESTRAINS!”.

People: please have some common sense!

  1. I saw those LOOK! signs today at… McDonald&10th? Somewhere around there. Thought they were kinda clever. Yeah it should be common sense but sometimes big lit up walk lights can be seen as an excuse not to.

  2. Dude, I love those signs. They never fail to make me chuckle :D

  3. Ooo I’ve seen them at Broadway! I think I’m more likely to get hit a car because I’m distracted by the amusing sign on the ground…

  4. haha… they’re truly awesome aren’t they

  5. I always look before I cross too XD

But the other day, some car decided to turn into a huge crowd of us when it was our turn to cross. I was tempted to just stop and glare at him. XD

Sometimes it’s the fault of the pedestrians, but sometimes it’s the fault of the drivers as well. XD
