Getting to Places During Beijing 2008 Olympics – Public Transport

I’ve now been in Beijing for nearly 3 weeks. At first, I was simply lost and confused, and could not find my way around the city. Now, however, with a simply look-up online or a phone call, I can get from Place A to Place B in the blink of the eye. For those of you who are visiting soon — perhaps during the Olympics — follow this guide to find your way.

Online Access

Simply find internet access (free wi-fi in the Xi Dan area) and visit the Beijing Public Transport website (bjbus.com ). This website is available in both Chinese and English versions. From there, do a quick search of your destination, and immediately you’ll find the most convenient bus route.

Public transportation is quite convinient these days in Beijing. Purchase a card and explore the city. Most buses have TVs installed, and the new subway system has TVs and air conditioning.

Information by Phone

Dial 12580 to get 24/7 support for your needs in Beijing. Ask anything: from where the nearest Starbucks is to how to get there. They’ll look up all the info and send it over to you in a SMS (text message). This service is also available in multiple languages.
