Happenings in a Nutshell

"I stole everything that I heard, but mostly I stole from the horns." - Ella Fitzgerald

As I Sit Patiently

This is day 1 of the the 7-day appreciation series.

As I sit patiently in this cozy, lively-atmosphered restaurant, waiting for my orders to arrive, I cannot help it but to drift my mind back to the 7-day appreciation challenge, initiated by blessed1. Frankly, saying that I write to appreciate things for 7 straight days simply out of the kindness of my heart would not be entirely true. Without a motivational force - ah, the food has arrived already - one would procrastinate on and on (oh yes, remind me to write about the delicate art of procrastinating), watching life disappear right in front of his/her own eyes.

Yum… what a great meal! The crispy, barbecued pork rips are tender and taste-bud-inviting. The soup is warm and soothing. Likewise, the main course is also very satisfying.

As the dessert menu is popped open, I am suddenly reminded of the less fortunate, living on the same planet as you and I.

“Children of the Ghetto
Runnin’ wild and free
In the concrete jungle
Filled with misery
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Theres no inspiration
To brighten up our day
None at all, not at all, none at all
So out of desperation” - Children of the Ghetto, Mary J. Blige

Frankly, saying that I write out of the kindness of my heart is not true. Frankly, saying that I write out of the kindness of my heart is not true… Not true… Not entirely true…

What would you call this? A mixture of mud, coal extracts, and polluted water often found in third-world countries? Or a bowl of freshly made black sesame soup, served as a dessert?

Do you believe that society as a whole needs to be awakened?

Awakening is a slow and labourious process. Only through understanding how fortunate we are today, to be able to sit in front of a computer and blog, and only through showing our appreciation by sharing these thoughts, can we truly understand our world and contribute to make it a better place.

Frankly, saying that I simply write out of the kindness of my loving heart is not entirely true… Or would you disagree and think otherwise?

Oh, what a coincidence. My fortune cookie says, “you will touch the hearts of many with your gift”.

I hope I am making a difference.
